In 2007, Beverley officially became a Fairtrade town!
To become a Fairtrade Town much work has to be done and the town has to achieve certain criteria. This process has taken three years and chairman John Turner is delighted that status has been granted to Beverley.
Over coming weeks the Town Council will discuss their commitment to assisting with placement of town signs declaring Beverley’s new title and is organising a celebratory event.
Such an award shows a true and passionate dedication to the furtherance of Fairtradeand clearly shows the widespread support residents have for the movement.
Although the award will be reviewed after the first year, and then subsequently every two years, it is hoped that by becoming a Fairtrade Town, even more cafes, shops and businesses will use and sell Fairtrade producers.Residents will also be encouraged to buy more Fairtrade items and learn about the reasons why Fairtrade is so important.
