Beverley Puppet Festival Returns to Town
Beverley Puppet Festival returns from Friday 15th to Sunday 17th July 2022 – and Beverley Town Council is delighted to be a strategic funding partner for this amazing event.
Earlier in the year, the Town Council agreed to award the Puppet Festival with ta three-year Strategic Partnership, which includes an element of secured funding in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
The Beverley Puppet Festival took place in 2005. Since then, it has become known as one of the biggest and best puppetry events in the UK, if not Europe.
Festival Founder and Co-Artistic Director, Anna Ingleby, explained why she believes the event continues to be such a success: “I think comedian and ventriloquist, Nina Conti, sums it up perfectly, simply: ‘[because] puppets can say things humans can’t.’ Puppet Theatre creates magic though its mix of so many artistic disciplines – it’s great how it draws people in on so many different levels… I wanted to introduce people to the broadest diversity of puppetry styles, to stimulate creative and critical thinking, to draw people into other worlds, to think outside the box and to target audiences of all ages, not just children… One could say: ‘to bring out the adult within the child and the child within the adult.”
A key aim of the Puppet Festival is to be totally inclusive, with much work taking place in the community with people who wouldn’t usually get involved with an activity of this kind. It is a truly unique event, which has the local community at heart.
Beverley Town Council is proud to support the event and wishes everyone involved with it good luck for the forthcoming festival weekend.
