The Big Beverley Pancake Race Returns
Flipping ‘Eck! It’s back!
The Big Beverley Pancake Race – 12.00pm Sunday 19th February 2023
The ‘Big Beverley Pancake Race’ is back, after two years absence due to the COVID pandemic. Some may remember it from many years ago, when it was a regular calendar date, and it was revived for two years in 2019 before the pandemic hit.
Beverley Town Council is proud to support this wonderful community event and thanks the Rotary Club of Beverley for taking the lead on what will be a flipping fun family occasion.
The call is going out for restaurants, cafes, shops, businesses and groups to get together a team of four willing pancake tossers, get sponsors or just run for fun and enter the relay race over an 80-metre course designed to encourage a sensible mix of skill and speed. Fancy dress is encouraged, however non-slip training shoes are required. Frying pans and pancakes will be supplied.
Whilst Beverley Town Council is supporting the event through the sponsorship of awards and providing barriers and mascots, the key organisers are The Rotary Club of Beverley along with Beverley Masonic Lodges. The aim of the event is to raise money for local charities and bring townsfolk and businesses together to celebrate an old custom of the town, bringing the community together for some winter cheer.
Cllr Linda Johnson, Mayor of Beverley, said: “Beverley Town Council is proud to support this lovely community event. It’s just what the town needs to cheer everyone up as we come out of Winter and move toward Spring. Thank you to the Beverley Rotary Club and Masonic Lodges for making this happen, and good luck to everyone taking part!”
John Greenwood, current President of the Rotary Club of Beverley said ‘’I am delighted that we are able to run this event again as it was a great success when it was revived prior to the pandemic and a lot of fun for both spectators and competitors. There will be prizes for the Winning Team and Best Dressed Team with medals for everyone. We hope local residents will come to Toll Gavel to share in the fun and support the teams in their races’’.
